What are the conditions of travel?

Customers who hold a Free Travel / DSFA Pass can book on their chosen service by selecting the 'Free Travel Pass' option in the Passenger selection box. Customers are advised there is limited availability for Free Travel bookings online.

  • You can purchase the ticket above using our Journey Planner. Tickets can only be purchased up to 90 days in advance.
  • An allocation of bookings on all InterCity services can be reserved online without a fee for 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders'. When this allocation is fully booked, all remaining seats can be reserved by 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders' for €2.50 per journey.

Who are family train tickets for?

All family tickets are valid for a return journey for 1 or 2 adults and up to 4 children between 5 and 18yrs old on our Low Flex tickets.  Children under 5yrs travel free on Intercity services. 

Where can I buy family tickets for the train?

Family tickets for InterCity journeys can be purchased online or from Booking Offices or Ticket Vending Machines (TVM's) in stations.

Terms and Conditions 

  • Restrictions might apply to ticket sales on specific days or routes
  • 1 adult and 1 child must travel on Family Rail Tickets
  • Children must be aged between 5 – 18 yrs on Intercity Tickets
  • Family Day Return Tickets are valid for travel on the date shown on the ticket only
  • The outward portion of a Family Open Return Ticket must be used on the date shown on the ticket only and the return portion can be used up to 30 days from this date
