  • You can purchase the ticket above using our Journey Planner. Tickets can only be purchased up to 90 days in advance.
  • An allocation of bookings on all InterCity services can be reserved online without a fee for 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders'. When this allocation is fully booked, all remaining seats can be reserved by 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders' for €2.50 per journey.

Details of changes and feedback from public consultation process

Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail in conjunction with the National Transport Authority is pleased to confirm a revised timetable from 11th December 2022.

Changes to timetables will be implemented on the following routes:

  • Northern Commuter
  • Maynooth Commuter
  • Dublin Rosslare InterCity
  • Grand Canal Dock/Hazelhatch/Newbridge Commuter
  • Dublin Waterford InterCity
  • Dublin Westport/Ballina InterCity
  • Cork Commuter

Feedback and changes arising from public consultation

Thank you to 1,553 customers who participated in our recent consultation, for our proposed new timetable from Sunday 11th December 2022.

We received feedback on every route, right across the network, and following review with the National Transport Authority, the timetable has now been finalised.

A number of changes to the draft proposals have been incorporated as a result of your feedback.  These include:

  • An earlier first service from Charleville to Cork, and later last service from Cork to Charleville
  • The proposed changes to evening peak Connolly to Drogheda and Balbriggan services will now not take place.
  • New earlier Sunday service from Portlaoise to Heuston, and additional stops for earlier Sunday services from Newbridge and Sallins.
  • Additional morning stops at Donabate and Rush & Lusk northbound to facilitate school children.
  • Earlier first service from M3 Parkway on weekdays, connecting at Clonsilla for Connolly.
  • Improved connection times at Limerick Junction for evening Waterford to Limerick Junction service.
  • 10:08hrs Ballybrophy to Limerick (via Nenagh) advanced to 09:05hrs.
  • Additional stop at Broombridge on selected morning Sligo to Connolly and evening Connolly to Sligo services, to connect to Luas.

These changes are additional to changes proposed in the draft timetables, which will now also proceed from 11th December.  These are:

  • Earlier first service on Monday to Friday between Dundalk/Drogheda and Pearse, which is also extended to Grand Canal Dock.
  • More services to call at Kilcoole on Rosslare Europort/Dublin Connolly services all week.
  • Twelve additional off-peak Commuter services between Newbridge and Heuston, resulting in trains every 30 minutes Monday to Friday.
  • Extra services between Hazelhatch and Grand Canal Dock, via Phoenix Park Tunnel on Monday to Friday.
  • A new return mid-morning service between Heuston and Carlow on Monday to Friday.
  • 07:00 Waterford to Heuston will additionally serve Kilkenny at 07:28 hrs; train is advanced to 06:50 from Waterford, but no change to arrival time in Heuston at 09:00 as a result.
  • A new 07:08 Athlone/Westport service Monday to Friday providing a service for regional commuters along the line.
  • A new 05:05 service from Ballina to Manulla which will connect with the advanced 05:15 Westport/Heuston service Monday to Friday.
  • The 07:30 Athlone/Galway service will now commence from Tullamore at 06:50 on Monday to Friday, and additionally serve Clara. There will be no change to the timings between Athlone and Galway.
  • Slight changes to evening services between Cork and Mallow providing a consistent 30 min frequency between 16:25 and 19:25 from Cork.
  • Later last services to Cobh and Midleton Monday to Saturday.
  • Improved journey times on Limerick/Ballybrophy services via Nenagh due to recent infrastructure works, resulting in a 15-minute time saving.
  • A number of other minor schedule alterations to improve punctuality.

It was not possible to address a number of requested changes in this consultation due to available driver resources.  Certain driver training programmes were deferred due to COVID-19 restrictions.  However, Iarnród Éireann will review these requests as more drivers become available in 2023 and beyond.  Specifically, an additional later evening service from Connolly to Gorey will be provided at the earliest opportunity in 2023.

This will result in the proposed 16:09 Connolly/Drogheda service not being introduced. Also the 17:58 Balbriggan/Pearse will remain unchanged and will now not commence from Drogheda at 17:48 as proposed.

As a result an advancement of 10 minutes from Waterford is required so as not to effect the arrival time into Dublin Heuston.
Additionally a greater number of feedback was received which was in favour of the Kilkenny stop (see 14 above).
