Customers who hold a Free Travel / DSFA Pass can book on their chosen service by selecting the 'Free Travel Pass' option in the Passenger selection box. Customers are advised there is limited availability for Free Travel bookings online.

  • You can purchase the ticket above using our Journey Planner. Tickets can only be purchased up to 90 days in advance.
  • An allocation of bookings on all InterCity services can be reserved online without a fee for 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders'. When this allocation is fully booked, all remaining seats can be reserved by 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders' for €2.50 per journey.

  • ICR sets currently operate on all InterCity routes from Dublin, including Cork, Limerick, Tralee, Waterford, Galway, Westport, Sligo and Rosslare Europort

  • Formation: The fleet can operate in multiple formations for passenger service up to 10 vehicles, where platform lengths allow it. The general maximum train size for passenger service is 7 vehicles (e.g. a 3 car and 4 car set coupled together).

New InterCity Carriages

The first of of our new InterCity carriages have entered service as of February 2024, with the remaining new carriages due to enter service in the months to follow.

They are single carriages and will make existing trains longer (5 car will become 6 car and so on) and as such are very similar to the existing vehicles.

These new carriages include a multipurpose area featuring 9 flip up seats, a standing area with hand rails and bicycle storage.

  • The De Dietrich trains operate exclusively between Dublin Connolly and Belfast Central as the branded "Enterprise" service. The service is a joint operation between Iarnród Éireann and Northern Ireland Railways
  • Formation: Typically formed into 8-carriage trains, consisting of 5 standard class vehicles, a buffet carriage, "First Plus" carriage and control vehicle; seating 449 passengers. When formed into 7-carriage trains, seating capacity is 378
  • Maximum Speed: 145 km/h
  • Facilities include: PA System, scrolling LED information displays, air conditioning, bike compartment, luggage racks, catering carriage, "1st Plus" first class carriage (including adjustable seating, in-seat radio and music, reading light, table lamps), wheelchair seating areas, wheelchair accessible toilet facilities, electronic route map, free unlimited high speed wireless broadband
