  • Free Travel/DSFA Pass Holders

What are the conditions of travel?

Customers who hold a Free Travel / DSFA Pass can book on their chosen service by selecting the 'Free Travel Pass' option in the Passenger selection box. Customers are advised there is limited availability for Free Travel bookings online.

  • You can purchase the ticket above using our Journey Planner. Tickets can only be purchased up to 90 days in advance.
  • An allocation of bookings on all InterCity services can be reserved online without a fee for 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders'. When this allocation is fully booked, all remaining seats can be reserved by 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders' for €2.50 per journey.

What are the conditions of travel?

Where there is doubt regarding the age qualification, it is the responsibility of the passenger or their guardian or parent to produce satisfactory evidence of age when requested by any Iarnród Éireann staff member. Amendments and cancellations are subject to the fare purchased ie Low, Semi Flexible, Flexible, First Class. 

Children under 5 years travel free in standard class on any Iarnród Éireann services when accompanied by a passenger holding a valid ticket, provided children do not occupy seats required for paying passengers. Failure to produce a valid ticket, appropriate ID or surcharge where necessary will result in a fine of €100 together with the relevant unpaid fare.

Who is eligible for this ticket?

  • Young Adults (19-25 years) and Students in full time education

What are the conditions of travel?

  • Customers must be in possession of a  TFI Young Adult (19-25 years) Leap Card or a TFI Student Leap Card to avail of student discounted tickets
  • Individual third level institution cards or ISIC cards are no longer accepted as valid forms of ID
  • Amendments and cancellations are subject to the fare purchased ie Low, Semi Flexible, Flexible, First Class
  • Failure to produce a valid ticket, appropriate valid ID or surcharge where necessary will result in a fine and the relevant unpaid fare.

Cork, Limerick and Tralee Services

From August the 21st until further notice

Tuesday to Saturday inclusive and every week thereafter: 
  • 07:00 to Dublin Heuston will depart from platform 4
  • 05:40, 06:15 to Dublin Heuston and 06:25 to Tralee will depart from platform 5

Saturday 19th April

Due to Engineering Works between Limerick Junction and Charleville on Saturday 19th April, the following service alterations and amendments will take place.
  • Cork services will operate every two hours in each direction with altered timings
  • Tralee services will operate every two hours, connecting to and from Cork services at Mallow
  • 17:05hrs Dublin Heuston to Tralee is cancelled. Passengers should board the 17:05 Dublin Heuston to Cork service and change at Mallow for a connecting service. Please note that there will be a delay of 25 - 30 mins from Mallow to Tralee
  • Limerick/Limerick Junction services will operate with altered timings. Limerick Colbert direct serices to and from Dublin Heuston will operate as normal
  • Nenagh Line services will operate with altered timings, please change at Ballybrophy for connecting services.

Due to Engineering Works between Limerick and Ennis on Tuesday 22nd, Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th April, the following service alterations and amendments will take place:

  • 10:25 Galway to Limerick will operate to Ennis only, bus transfers direct from Ennis to Limerick, second bus transfer from Ennis to Sixmilebridge and Limerick
  • 14:20 Limerick to Galway will be bus transfers departing at 14:10 direct from Limerick to Ennis, second bus transfer departing at 14:10 from Limerick to Sixmilebridge and Ennis, train departing at 15:02 from Ennis to Galway
  • 12:30 Limerick to Ennis will be substituted by bus transfers
  • 13:25 Ennis to Limerick will be substituted by bus transfers


Saturday 26th April and Sunday 27th April

Due to Engineering Works between Sallins to Portarlington and between Athlone to Ballinasloe on Saturday 26th April, the following service alterations and amendments will take place:


Saturday 26th April

  • 18:00 Heuston to Cork will be bus transfers direct from Heuston to Portarlington, train departing at 19:15 from Portarlington to Cork calling additionally at Portlaoise and Templemore
  • 19:00 Heuston to Cork will be bus transfers direct from Heuston to Portarlington, train departing at 20:15 from Portarlington to Cork
  • 21:00 Heuston to Cork will be bus transfers direct from Heuston to Portarlington, train departing at 22:15 from Portarlington to Cork
  • 15:25 Cork to Heuston will call additionally at Portarlington and will operate in an altered path
  • 16:25 Cork to Heuston will operate to Portarlington only, bus transfers direct from Portarlington to Heuston, second bus transfer from Portarlington to Kildare and Heuston, third bus transfer from Monasterevin to Kildare, Newbridge, Sallins and Hazelhatch
  • 17:25 Cork to Heuston will operate to Portarlington only, bus transfers direct from Portarlington to Heuston, second bus transfer from Portarlington to Kildare and Heuston, third bus transfer from Monasterevin to Kildare, Newbridge, Sallins and Hazelhatch
  • 18:25 Cork to Heuston will operate to Portarlington only, bus transfers direct from Portarlington to Heuston
  • 20:25 Cork to Heuston will operate to Portarlington only, bus transfers direct from Portarlington to Heuston, second bus transfer from Portarlington to Kildare and Heuston, third bus transfer from Monasterevin to Kildare, Newbridge, Sallins and Hazelhatch

  • 20:48 Limerick Junction to Limerick is advanced to 20:30
  • 22:40 Limerick Junction to Limerick is advanced to 21:35
  • 21:00 Limerick to Limerick Junction is advanced to 20:50
  • An additional train at 23:25 from Limerick Junction to Limerick will operate
  • 18:40 Limerick Junction to Waterford is deferred to 19:05

Sunday 27th April

Due to Engineering Works between Sallins and Portarlington on Sunday 27th April, the following service alterations and amendments will take place:
  • 08:30 Heuston to Tralee will be bus transfers direct from Heuston to Portlaoise, train departing at 09:50 from Portlaoise to Tralee
  • 10:48 Mallow to Cork is deferred to 11:20
  • 10:06 Limerick Junction to Limerick is deferred to 10:50
