Fare Adjustments on some Intercity routes to take effect on June 24th
10 June 2024
A number of Short Hop Zone paper tickets are being discontinued, having been superseded by Leap Card daily and weekly caps
Following a fares determination announced by the NTA in January this year, new fares will come into effect across the TFI network of public transport services. The first phase will be introduced on Monday June 24th.
On Iarnród Éireann services, the following adjustments will apply:
- Intercity fare increases broadly averaging c. 4% on Economy 1 (Dublin to Galway / Sligo / Mayo; Limerick to Galway) and Economy 2 (Dublin to Waterford / Rosslare; Limerick to Ballybrophy via Nenagh; Waterford to Limerick Junction) routes for station fares (single, day return and open return).
- Existing Family 1-day, and Adult 3-day and 7-day Dublin area Short Hop zone paper tickets are discontinued, having been superseded by Leap Card daily and weekly caps.
- All other fares are unchanged.
The Intercity fare changes represent the first booking office fare increases on any Intercity route since 2018, with a reduction of 20% having been implemented in May 2022.
Tickets purchased online at www.irishrail.ie, or using a TFI Leap card offer the best value in fares. Half-price fares apply for young adults aged 19-25 years who hold a valid TFI Young Adult Leap Card and students aged 26 years and above who hold a valid Student Leap Card.
