  • You can purchase the ticket above using our Journey Planner. Tickets can only be purchased up to 90 days in advance.
  • An allocation of bookings on all InterCity services can be reserved online without a fee for 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders'. When this allocation is fully booked, all remaining seats can be reserved by 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders' for €2.50 per journey.

Christmas and New Year rail services, including late night DART and Commuter

Iarnród Éireann has advised customers of rail service details across the Christmas and New Year period.

Key aspects of this year's schedules include:

  • Late night DART and Commuter services will operate in the lead-up to Christmas, on Thursdays to Saturdays 5th to 7th, 12th to 14th and 19th to 21st December, as well as on New Year's Eve after midnight.
  • Revised Christmas / New Year timetables on all routes from Christmas Eve 24th December 2024 to New Year's Day 1st January 2025 inclusive, with no trains on Christmas Day 25th or St Stephen's Day 26th December.
  • Rail line closed Connolly to Grand Canal Dock (with limited exceptions between Pearse and Grand Canal Dock) from 27th December 2024 to 5th January 2025 inclusive for major track renewal works

Full summary details are below.  Customers are advised to check times before travel throughout the Christmas / New Year period for any alterations.  Customers are also remined that pre-booking is strongly advised on Intercity services, particularly at busiest times.

Pre-Christmas Late night DART and Commuter services

Late night DART and Commuter services will operate on the three weekends in the lead-in to Christmas  Please note for departures after midnight, these will be listed in our journey planner on the following date (e.g Friday 6th for after midnight on the night of Thursday 5th).

Late night services will operate as follows on Thursday 5th to Saturday 7th, Thursday 12th to Saturday 14th and Thursday 19th to Saturday 21st December:

  • 00:30 & 01:30 from Pearse serving all stations to Howth
  • 00:30 & 01:30 from Connolly serving all stations to Greystones
  • 00:40 & 01:40 from Pearse serving Tara St, Connolly, and all stations from Howth Junction to Dundalk
  • 00:20 & 02:00 from Pearse serving all stations to Maynooth
  • 23:50 & 01:50 from Pearse serving all stations to Drumcondra, and all stations from ParkWest to Kildare

Rail service alterations 24th December 2024 to 5th January 2025 inclusive

Christmas Eve Tuesday 24th December 2024

  • Weekday InterCity service but with cancellations and alterations on certain routes, with last services between 18:00hrs and 20:30hrs approx.
  • DART & Commuter will operate a normal Saturday service until 21:00 hrs approx.
    • Last services: 19:45 Heuston/Portlaoise & 19:25 Portlaoise/Heuston; 20:17 Connolly/Maynooth & 21:08 Maynooth/Connolly; 20:50 Clonsilla/M3 Parkway & 21:08 M3 Parkway/Clonsilla; 20:18 Connolly/Drogheda & 19:48 Drogheda/Connolly; 21:03 Malahide/Connolly & 20:57 Bray/Connolly.
  • Phoenix Park Tunnel Commuter (Grand Canal Dock/Hazelhatch & Newbridge) route will operate a reduced service until 19:45 hrs approx.
    • Last services: 18:52 Hazelhatch/Grand Canal Dock & 19:45 Grand Canal Dock/Hazelhatch.
  • Cork Commuter will operate a normal Saturday service until 21:00 hrs approx.
    • Last services: 20.00 Cork/Cobh & 20.30 Cobh/Cork; 20:15 Cork/Midleton & 20:45 Midleton/Cork.

Christmas Day Wednesday 25th December 2024 & St Stephen’s Day Thursday 26th December 2024

  • No train services operating on any routes.

Friday 27th December 2024

  • Revised and reduced InterCity services, check times before travel.
    • Due to Engineering Works between Connolly and Grand Canal Dock, Rosslare services will operate as bus transfers between Connolly and Bray. Trains will operate between Bray and Rosslare only.
  • Revised Saturday service on DART and Commuter routes, with the following alterations due to Engineering Works between Connolly and Grand Canal Dock, check times before travel:
    • Northside DART services will operate between Connolly and Howth/Malahide only.
    • Southside DART services will operate between Grand Canal Dock and Bray/Greystones only.
  • Saturday service on Cork Commuter routes.

  • No service on Phoenix Park Tunnel (Grand Canal Dock/Hazelhatch to Newbridge) route.

Thursday 2nd January 2025 & Friday 3rd January 2025

  • Normal weekday service on InterCity services to/from Heuston Station.
  • Normal weekday service Portlaoise Commuter route.
  • Normal weekday service on Cork Commuter routes.
  • Belfast Enterprise and Sligo InterCity services to/from Connolly Station will operate as normal.
  • Due to Engineering Works between Connolly and Grand Canal Dock, Rosslare services will operate as bus transfers between Connolly and Bray. Trains will operate between Bray and Rosslare only.
  • Due to Engineering Works between Connolly and Grand Canal Dock, a revised Saturday service with additional peak time services will operate on DART and Connolly Commuter routes, with the following alterations:
    • Docklands Station will be closed.
    • Northside DART services will operate between Connolly and Howth/Malahide only.
    • Southside DART services will operate between Pearse and Bray/Greystones only until 18:00 approx., after which services will operate between Grand Canal Dock and Bray/Greystones only.
    • Northern Commuter services will operate between Dundalk/Drogheda and Connolly only.
    • Maynooth Commuter services will operate between Maynooth and Connolly only.
    • M3 Parkway Commuter services will operate between M3 Parkway and Clonsilla only. Customers can connect with Maynooth Commuter services for travel to/from Connolly.
    • Customers are advised to please check times before travel.
  • Reduced service on Phoenix Park Tunnel (Grand Canal Dock/Hazelhatch & Newbridge) route due to Engineering Works between Connolly and Grand Canal Dock. Services will operate to/from Connolly only. Customers are advised to please check times before travel.

 Saturday 4th January 2025

  • Normal Saturday InterCity service on all routes, except Dublin/Rosslare:
    • Due to Engineering Works between Connolly and Grand Canal Dock, Rosslare services will operate as bus transfers between Connolly and Bray. Trains will operate between Bray and Rosslare only.
  • Revised Saturday service on DART and Dublin Commuter routes, with the following alterations due to Engineering Works between Connolly and Grand Canal Dock, check times before travel:
    • Northside DART services will operate between Connolly and Howth/Malahide only.
    • Southside DART services will operate between Grand Canal Dock and Bray/Greystones only.
