Who is eligible for this ticket?

  • Free Travel/DSFA Pass Holders

What are the conditions of travel?

Customers who hold a Free Travel / DSFA Pass can book on their chosen service by selecting the 'Free Travel Pass' option in the Passenger selection box. Customers are advised there is limited availability for Free Travel bookings online.

  • You can purchase the ticket above using our Journey Planner. Tickets can only be purchased up to 90 days in advance.
  • An allocation of bookings on all InterCity services can be reserved online without a fee for 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders'. When this allocation is fully booked, all remaining seats can be reserved by 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders' for €2.50 per journey.

What are the conditions of travel?

Where there is doubt regarding the age qualification, it is the responsibility of the passenger or their guardian or parent to produce satisfactory evidence of age when requested by any Iarnród Éireann staff member. Amendments and cancellations are subject to the fare purchased ie Low, Semi Flexible, Flexible, First Class. 

Children under 5 years travel free in standard class on any Iarnród Éireann services when accompanied by a passenger holding a valid ticket, provided children do not occupy seats required for paying passengers. Failure to produce a valid ticket, appropriate ID or surcharge where necessary will result in a fine of €100 together with the relevant unpaid fare.

  • Young Adults (19-25 years) and Students in full time education

What are the conditions of travel?

  • Customers must be in possession of a  TFI Young Adult (19-25 years) Leap Card or a TFI Student Leap Card to avail of student discounted tickets
  • Individual third level institution cards or ISIC cards are no longer accepted as valid forms of ID
  • Amendments and cancellations are subject to the fare purchased ie Low, Semi Flexible, Flexible, First Class
  • Failure to produce a valid ticket, appropriate valid ID or surcharge where necessary will result in a fine and the relevant unpaid fare.

Easter weekend 2025 rail services

15 April 2025

Please note revised schedules from Good Friday 18th April to Easter Monday 21st April, including major works from Saturday to Monday affecting Connolly to Howth / Drogheda / Belfast

Iarnród Éireann advises customers that a revised timetable will be in place this Easter weekend on all routes.

Customers are advised to check times before travel from Good Friday 18th April to Easter Monday 21st April inclusive for revised schedules, at the Journey Planner above or at the Iarnród Éireann app.  Intercity travel can also be booked at the website or app, and is strongly advised, particularly at busiest times and during the times of major works.

 

Rail service arrangements – Good Friday 18th April

Revised times on many routes, including a Saturday schedule on DART and revised Saturday schedule on Commuter services. Check times for all routes at www.irishrail.ie or the Iarnród Éireann app.

 

Rail service arrangements - major works, Connolly to Howth/Drogheda/Belfast, Saturday 19th to Easter Monday 21st April

Customers are asked to note in particular the following works taking place over the Easter weekend.

 

Saturday 19th to Easter Monday 21st April inclusive, Connolly to Howth / Belfast

A series of works including track renewal, overhead line renewal, and signalling commissioning works will take place between Connolly and Dundalk, as well as separate track works by Translink in Norther Ireland.  As a result:

  • DART services between Connolly and Howth/Malahide will be suspended. Dublin Bus and Go Ahead will accept rail tickets on relevant services.  DART services will operate between Connolly and Greystones.
  • Dublin Connolly to Belfast Grand Central services will be fully replaced by bus transfers, to a revised schedule.
  • Northern Commuter services will be suspended. A limited bus transfer service will operate as follows:
    • Drogheda, Balbriggan, Donabate to/from Connolly
    • Skerries, Rush & Lusk to/from Connolly

Iarnród Éireann apologises to customers for the inconvenience caused by these essential works.

Revised times on all routes, please check times before travel at the Journey Planner above or the Iarnród Éireann app.  On Easter Monday, this includes a Sunday service on Connolly to Bray/Greystones DART services, and other Commuter routes.
