  • Free Travel/DSFA Pass Holders

What are the conditions of travel?

Customers who hold a Free Travel / DSFA Pass can book on their chosen service by selecting the 'Free Travel Pass' option in the Passenger selection box. Customers are advised there is limited availability for Free Travel bookings online.

  • You can purchase the ticket above using our Journey Planner. Tickets can only be purchased up to 90 days in advance.
  • An allocation of bookings on all InterCity services can be reserved online without a fee for 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders'. When this allocation is fully booked, all remaining seats can be reserved by 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders' for €2.50 per journey.

What are the conditions of travel?

Where there is doubt regarding the age qualification, it is the responsibility of the passenger or their guardian or parent to produce satisfactory evidence of age when requested by any Iarnród Éireann staff member. Amendments and cancellations are subject to the fare purchased ie Low, Semi Flexible, Flexible, First Class. 

Children under 5 years travel free in standard class on any Iarnród Éireann services when accompanied by a passenger holding a valid ticket, provided children do not occupy seats required for paying passengers. Failure to produce a valid ticket, appropriate ID or surcharge where necessary will result in a fine of €100 together with the relevant unpaid fare.

  • Young Adults (19-25 years) and Students in full time education

What are the conditions of travel?

  • Customers must be in possession of a  TFI Young Adult (19-25 years) Leap Card or a TFI Student Leap Card to avail of student discounted tickets
  • Individual third level institution cards or ISIC cards are no longer accepted as valid forms of ID
  • Amendments and cancellations are subject to the fare purchased ie Low, Semi Flexible, Flexible, First Class
  • Failure to produce a valid ticket, appropriate valid ID or surcharge where necessary will result in a fine and the relevant unpaid fare.

St Patrick's weekend rail services 2025

Extra trains for Dublin Parade as part of St Patrick’s Bank Holiday rail services, with late night DART and Commuter to operate on St Patrick’s night

Iarnród Éireann has advised customers of rail travel arrangements, including a range of extra services, for the St Patrick’s Bank Holiday weekend.

Extra trains will operate on St Patrick’s Day, Monday 17th March, including trains before and after the Dublin Parade, as well as late night trains on DART and Dublin Commuter routes.

Full service details are available at the journey planner above or the Iarnród Éireann app.  Customers travelling by Intercity are advised to book rail travel in advance, particularly at busiest times, through the website or app also.

Full service arrangements are as follows:

Saturday 15th March

A Saturday service will operate on all routes, with the following extra services for Kerry v Armagh Allianz Football League Match

  • Extra 19:45hrs Tralee to Cork, which must be booked in advance at irishrail.ie or the Iarnród Éireann app, for Kerry v Armagh.

Sunday 16th March

  • A Sunday service will operate on DART and Commuter routes.
  • A revised timetable will operate on Intercity routes – check times before travel.

St Patrick’s Day, Bank Holiday Monday 17th March

  • DART and Commuter: A Sunday service will operate, with extra DART and Commuter services (from Howth, Malahide, Bray, Greystones, Kildare, Maynooth, Longford Drogheda and Dundalk) operating before and after the St Patrick’s Day parade. Customers are advised to check times, and allow sufficient time to travel to the Parade, which begins at 12:00hrs, with high demand expected.
  • Customers are advised that Tara Street Station will be closed until 16:00hrs, to facilitate Garda crowd management arrangements for the Parade. Please use Connolly or Pearse Stations during this time.
  • An extra 09:25hrs Connolly to Howth DART will also operate to facilitate those travelling to the start of the Aware Harbour2Harbour Walk.
  • Late night trains: The following trains will operate after midnight on DART and Commuter routes, serving all stations unless otherwise stated (as these trains will depart after midnight, please note these will appear as 18th March on Journey planner and app):
    • 00:20hrs Pearse to Maynooth
    • 00:30hrs Pearse to Howth
    • 00:35hrs Connolly to Greystones
    • 00:40hrs Pearse to Dundalk (serving Tara St, Connolly, Howth Junction and then all stations to Dundalk) 
    • 00:50hrs Pearse to Kildare (serving Tara St, Connolly, Drumcondra, and all stations ParkWest to Kildare)
  • Intercity routes: A revised timetable is in operation. Please check irishrail.ie or the Iarnród Éireann app for times.
  • Cork Commuter: A Sunday service will operate.
