  • An allocation of bookings on all InterCity services can be reserved online without a fee for 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders'. When this allocation is fully booked, all remaining seats can be reserved by 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders' for €2.50 per journey.

Telecoms Project Engineer, DART+ Programme

Location: Inchicore

The DART+ Programme is a transformative railway project, which will modernise and improve the existing rail network, which radiates from Dublin City Centre. It will provide a sustainable, electrified, reliable and user-friendly rail system, which increases train frequencies and customer capacity.

It will create a full metropolitan area DART network for Dublin, with all the lines linked and connected. This will transform the rail system in the Greater Dublin Area (GDA), delivering new DART services between the City Centre and Drogheda, Maynooth & M3 Parkway along with Hazelhatch - Celbridge. DART+ Programme will enable an increase in capacity network-wide from the Regions to the GDA.

The Irish Government National Development plans considers DART+ as one of the key projects under its overall €35 billion infrastructural investment plan. The cumulative network effect of DART+ will increase customer capacity from circa 26,000 customers per hour per direction to a capacity to increase to a peak of 62,000 passengers per hour per direction thereafter, subject to further fleet procurement.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure telecoms design complies with Iarnród Éireann standards and processes, meets scope, signaling specifications, and implementation strategies.
  • Manage technical issues, liaise with SET department and external consultants, and oversee communication and technical requirements.
  • Manage Bill of Materials for telecoms elements, liaise with Procurement, and support design reviews.
  • Lead engineering meetings, technical discussions, and change control processes, notifying relevant parties of potential scope changes.
  • Comply with Iarnród Éireann processes for third-party telecoms designs and support DART+ Programme Managers in project delivery.
  • Implement Iarnród Éireann Standards, assist with applications for standard derogations, and provide signal engineering support.
  • Produce progress and technical reports, deputize for Head of PMO & Systems Team Lead, and support junior team members.
  • Ensure safety compliance, manage projects in line with regulations and policies, and coordinate project activities.
  • Support incident investigations, risk reviews, and safety assurance processes.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, manage project resources, and support stakeholder processes to meet project goals.
  • Adhere to corporate HR and procurement policies and assist in preparing reports for Programme Controls.
  • Support the Safety Assurance Manager in achieving APIS approvals.

Key Qualities

Essential Requirements

  • Recognised academic & practical qualification to demonstrate competence in the necessary technical skills and experience.
  • Member of Engineers Ireland or other relevant professional body.
  • Minimum of 5 years project engineering experience in railway engineering or similar multi-disciplinary engineering environment.
  • Relevant project engineering experience for projects of a similar complexity.
  • Demonstrable ability to manage engineering process and associated issues.
  • A good working knowledge of railway telecoms and signalling system.
  • A good understanding of major railway engineering discipline interfaces.

Desirable

  • An Engineering degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Chartered status.
  • Knowledge of railway infrastructure and railway operations.
  • Knowledge of the Construction Regulations.
  • Experience and understanding of Safety Assurance processes.
