  • An allocation of bookings on all InterCity services can be reserved online without a fee for 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders'. When this allocation is fully booked, all remaining seats can be reserved by 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders' for €2.50 per journey.

Environmental and Sustainability Officer, Capital Investments – Iarnród Éireann

Role and Purpose

Create and implement an Environmental Management System (EMS) for Network Enhancements projects and develop a Sustainability Programme for conformance to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
Provide environmental and sustainability support to the management team of Network Enhancements regarding compliance with environmental and sustainability legislation and regulations, researching alternative methods/products to constantly improve environmental and sustainability performance, finding solutions/mitigations, as well as implementing sustainability initiatives that include environmental, social and governance considerations.

Coordinate internal/external audits for Networks Enhancements projects’ EMS’s, prepare reports on outcomes of audits for Network Enhancements management team, ensure close-out of any non-conformances and corrective actions identified.

Provide a tracking and reporting system for sustainability data that will feed into Iarnród Éireann’s overall Sustainability Report.

Key Responsibilities

  • Writing an Environmental Management System (EMS) Standard that addresses the environmental impact from the Networks Enhancement’s works including construction-related activities (noise, vibration, air quality), energy usage, water/marine impacts, waste management, chemical management, legal register, stakeholder engagements, emissions data (Scope 1, 2 and 3)
  • Working with the line managers to define the roles/responsibilities for the EMS
  • Setting out the environmental aspect register for Network Enhancements to be incorporated into Iarnród Éireann’s overall register
  • Identifying significant aspects and writing operating procedures for control and mitigation
  • Providing Environmental and Sustainability Awareness Training to relevant staff
  • Building a system for monitoring and measuring environmental and sustainability performance – periodic reviews/checks/reports, internal audits and organisation of external audits
  • Setting annual objectives and reporting on performance at an annual management review
  • Organise and attend meetings with project managers and other relevant staff on a regular basis to build out the environmental risks of their activities in an 'Environmental Aspect Register'. This includes organising site visits to the various locations
  • Work with relevant staff to decide on appropriate mitigation measures to address the impacts identified in the Environmental Aspects Register
  • Available to Network Enhancements project managers to deal with environmental queries related to construction activities as they arise

Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum 3rd level qualification in Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering
  • Experience in writing management systems
  • Knowledge of ISO systems and auditing
  • Knowledge of CSRD
  • Proficiency in MS programmes
  • Strong organisational skills and self-motivated
  • Passionate about environmental improvement and sustainability concepts

Desirable

  • Familiarity with Power BI
  • Extended knowledge or a certification in Sustainability Reporting
