Civil/Structural Design Engineer - Multi Annual Programmes, Network Enhancements
Division – Capital Investments
Location – Inchicore Works, Inchicore
Salary Scale – J37
Responsibilities
General:
- Support continuous improvement of Structural Design Office systems and processes.
- Manage sub-projects within major business unit projects.
- Focus on bridge structures by conducting structural assessments, preparing technical reports, and designing refurbishments and new structures, including footbridges.
- Oversee preparation, review, and checking of civil/structural engineering drawings and specifications.
- Monitor on-site construction, safety, quality, and production.
- Review and assess structural designs and reports prepared by third parties.
Safety:
- Adhere to all Iarnród Éireann safety policies, standards, and procedures.
- Represent the MAP Section at internal and external meetings, ensuring corporate policy compliance.
- Fulfill Safety Responsibility Statement requirements and support safety initiatives.
- Track safety performance, staff standards, and procedural compliance.
Finance:
- Ensure accurate recording of work hours for chargeable and non-chargeable tasks.

Essential Requirements
- A Third Level 8 qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering,
- Membership of Engineers Ireland or equivalent professional governing body,
- A minimum of 5 years’ post qualification experience working in a Civil and/or Structural Engineering Design office,
- Chartered engineer,
- A strong working knowledge of LUAS, Tekla TEEDS, SLOPE, WALLAP or similar design software,
- A good working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, AutoDesk Civils 3D and similar design aid tools,
- Working under a BIM system,
- An excellent working knowledge of current Civil and Structural Engineering design standards, the EuroCodes, TII Standards and Health & Safety Regulations,
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety issues in a construction/rail environment.
- Availability to work occasional weekend and/or night shifts
- Full Drivers License
Desirable:
- Experience in the preparation and delivery of technical information, including reports, drawings, specifications, bills of quantities, etc. for Civil/Structural Engineering projects,
- Experience in construction site safety, quality and production audits,
- Experience in maintaining an information management system,
- Demonstrable understanding of good Project Management Procedures,
- Competency in Health & Safety within a rail/construction environment (both HSA & CRR)
Interview Competencies:
- Demonstrated experience of holding responsibility for delivery of drawings, documentation, etc.
- Demonstrated experience of holding responsibility for managing contracts on site
- Excellent Interpersonal skills/ communications skills
- Commercial awareness
- Planning & Organisational skills.
