Free Travel Pass

  • Free Travel/DSFA Pass Holders

What are the conditions of travel?

Customers who hold a Free Travel / DSFA Pass can book on their chosen service by selecting the 'Free Travel Pass' option in the Passenger selection box. Customers are advised there is limited availability for Free Travel bookings online.

  • You can purchase the ticket above using our Journey Planner. Tickets can only be purchased up to 90 days in advance.
  • An allocation of bookings on all InterCity services can be reserved online without a fee for 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders'. When this allocation is fully booked, all remaining seats can be reserved by 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders' for €2.50 per journey.

What are the conditions of travel?

Where there is doubt regarding the age qualification, it is the responsibility of the passenger or their guardian or parent to produce satisfactory evidence of age when requested by any Iarnród Éireann staff member. Amendments and cancellations are subject to the fare purchased ie Low, Semi Flexible, Flexible, First Class. 

Children under 5 years travel free in standard class on any Iarnród Éireann services when accompanied by a passenger holding a valid ticket, provided children do not occupy seats required for paying passengers. Failure to produce a valid ticket, appropriate ID or surcharge where necessary will result in a fine of €100 together with the relevant unpaid fare.

  • Young Adults (19-25 years) and Students in full time education

What are the conditions of travel?

  • Customers must be in possession of a  TFI Young Adult (19-25 years) Leap Card or a TFI Student Leap Card to avail of student discounted tickets
  • Individual third level institution cards or ISIC cards are no longer accepted as valid forms of ID
  • Amendments and cancellations are subject to the fare purchased ie Low, Semi Flexible, Flexible, First Class
  • Failure to produce a valid ticket, appropriate valid ID or surcharge where necessary will result in a fine and the relevant unpaid fare.

Add your Dublin Express connection from Heuston Station when booking Intercity travel on irishrail.ie

Convenient and Affordable

When booking your rail ticket online travelling to Heuston Station, you can now add onward travel to Dublin Airport with Dublin Express. Simply select in Extras when booking your rail ticket. The add on can only be purchased 24 hours or more in advance of your train departure time.

Prices start from just €8, providing a cost-effective and hassle-free connection.

Frequent Services

Dublin Express operates 50 services daily, running from 04:35 until late with a frequency of every 15 minutes at peak times. Customers can be picked up from Heuston Station and can be dropped off at Terminal 1: Outside Terminal 1 Arrivals (turn left upon exit), and Terminal 2: Pickup from Zone 21 (cross the glass walkway, turn left, and go down the escalator).

Affordable and Reliable

Customers booking online travelling to Kent Station can add a Bus Éireann transfer to your booking for just €1.55, ensuring a smooth journey to Cork Airport.

Bus Éireann operates Routes 225 and 226, providing a reliable connection between Cork’s Kent Station - Cork City Centre - Cork Airport with the following schedules:

  • Weekdays: Every 30 minutes
  • Sundays and Public Holidays: Every 60 minutes

When booking your rail ticket on irishrail.ie, navigate to the ‘Extras Page’ and select the appropriate add-on:

  • Dublin Express Add-on (Single/Return) for Dublin Airport transfers.
  • Bus Éireann Coach Transfer (for Cork Kent Station to Cork Airport) when traveling from eligible stations.

Terms and Conditions

  • Present a printed Iarnród Éireann booking confirmation (including the add-on) to the coach driver upon boarding.
  • Your Dublin Express ticket is valid for 24 hours on the selected date.
  • Your Bus Éireann ticket is valid on the next available service for the selected date.
  • Arrive 10 minutes early at your departure point.
  • Allow at least 180 minutes between your coach’s arrival and flight departure.
  • Luggage Allowance: 1 soft hand luggage + either 2 medium cases (70cm x 30cm x 45cm, max 20kg each) or 1 large case (75cm x 50cm x 32cm, max 20kg). Excess luggage fees may apply.
