  • Free Travel/DSFA Pass Holders

What are the conditions of travel?

Customers who hold a Free Travel / DSFA Pass can book on their chosen service by selecting the 'Free Travel Pass' option in the Passenger selection box. Customers are advised there is limited availability for Free Travel bookings online.

  • You can purchase the ticket above using our Journey Planner. Tickets can only be purchased up to 90 days in advance.
  • An allocation of bookings on all InterCity services can be reserved online without a fee for 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders'. When this allocation is fully booked, all remaining seats can be reserved by 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders' for €2.50 per journey.

What are the conditions of travel?

Where there is doubt regarding the age qualification, it is the responsibility of the passenger or their guardian or parent to produce satisfactory evidence of age when requested by any Iarnród Éireann staff member. Amendments and cancellations are subject to the fare purchased ie Low, Semi Flexible, Flexible, First Class. 

Children under 5 years travel free in standard class on any Iarnród Éireann services when accompanied by a passenger holding a valid ticket, provided children do not occupy seats required for paying passengers. Failure to produce a valid ticket, appropriate ID or surcharge where necessary will result in a fine of €100 together with the relevant unpaid fare.

  • Customers must be in possession of a  TFI Young Adult (19-25 years) Leap Card or a TFI Student Leap Card to avail of student discounted tickets
  • Individual third level institution cards or ISIC cards are no longer accepted as valid forms of ID
  • Amendments and cancellations are subject to the fare purchased ie Low, Semi Flexible, Flexible, First Class
  • Failure to produce a valid ticket, appropriate valid ID or surcharge where necessary will result in a fine and the relevant unpaid fare.

The Office of the Director of Health and Safety welcomes expressions of interest for the position of Safety Executive, Health and Safety Department. The role is based at our Connolly Head Office, reporting directly to the Strategy & Performance Manager. As a railway operator, safety is our number one priority. The chosen candidate will display evidence of health and safety principles, have excellent organisational skills and be an effective conduit between the Office of the Director of Health & Safety, the wider health and safety family and key stakeholders.

Role and Purpose

  • To assist DoH&S to ensure all correspondence is managed efficiently
  • Provide support for the business on cross-functional safety matters
  • Produce Trend Reports
  • Produce reports for the SEG, EG, BSG and Board
  • Assist with the production of an annual safety report
  • Manage the discoveries on behalf of the DoH&S for the company and liaise with CIE Solicitors and Claims Department
  • Scheduling of Audits
  • Carry out Audits/RM3 assessments
  • Management of the ‘Close Out’ of recommendations
  • General Administration of the office including budget reporting and management of SAP
  • Provide support for Safety compliance team as required

General Responsibilities

  • To ensure all discoveries are executed thoroughly and in a timely manner

Specific Responsibilities

Safety Management System:

  • Ensure that all KPI reports are produced accurately and timely
  • You will monitor and review the implementation of recommendations and identify any non-compliance with same
  • You will also review the progress with the implementation of all the related actions for any Hazards identified during tours, Method Statements, Risk Assessments and Accident Investigations
  • Verify that all relevant documentation, activities, processes, and systems are compliant with the required standards.
  • You will carry out audits on the Safety Management System as instructed by your manager
  • You will be required to assist in the investigation of incidents and accidents as directed

Performance Measures

  • Producing the periodic reports for the Board, Executive Group, Board Safety Committee (BSC) and safety Review Groups (SRG’s)
  • Assisting the DoH&S in the compilation of papers/briefings for the BSC
  • Assisting in the preparation of Annual Safety Plans for the BSC

Renumeration, Annual Leave and Benefits

  • The role of Safety Executive B will be offered on a fixed term basis initially, with the potential for permanency subject to business requirements
  • The duration of the FTC will be 12-24 months and will contain a six month probationary period
  • The starting salary for the role is €57,405.47. Renumeration for the role is based on a six-year salary scale topping at €69,787.39
  • Annual leave is 25 days per annum
  • Benefits include: LUAS taxsaver scheme, Cycle to Work Scheme, Reduced fares on CIE services following one months’ employment and various educational and career development opportunities
